Apple launches iPad Air (2024) in India

At its ‘Let Loose’ event on Tuesday, Apple introduced the iPad Air (2024) to the Indian and international markets. A first for the iPad Air series, the sixth generation iPad Air model will be offered with 10.9-inch and 13-inch display options. Both of the iPad Air models that Apple showed had Liquid Retina (LCD) screens, despite earlier rumors suggesting that the bigger iPad Air would have a Mini-LED screen. Apple’s eight core M2 processor powers the iPad Air (2024).

The starting price of the 11-inch iPad Air (2024) model with Wi-Fi connectivity and 128GB of storage in India is Rs. 59,900. For Rs. 79,990, you can also buy it in the Wi-Fi + Cellular version. In the meantime, the 13.9-inch iPad Air model’s Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular versions cost Rs. 74,900 and Rs. 94,900, respectively. According to Apple, both versions will also have a 256GB storage option.

The recently unveiled iPad Air (2024) will go on sale in international regions, including India, on May 15. It comes in blue, purple, space grey, and starlight color options. In the US, the starting price is $599 for regular display sizes and $799 for bigger ones.

Apple’s M2 chip, an octa-core CPU with Apple’s Neural Engine for on-device AI workloads, is a feature of the iPad Air (2024). Apple states that the new iPad Air is 50% quicker than the M1 chip on the previous generation and offers up to 15% better CPU and 25% better GPU performance than the device it replaced. The smartphone comes pre-installed with iPadOS 17.

The 11-inch Liquid Retina (LCD) screen of the new iPad Air has the same 2,360×1,640-pixel resolution as the iPad Air model from Apple’s fifth generation. The iPad Air will also be offered this year with a 13-inch display version that has a resolution of 2,732×2,048 pixels. The screens have a peak brightness of 500 nits, a pixel density of 264 ppi, support for True Tone, and a P3 color gamut.

The iPad Air (2024) has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle forward-facing camera for taking selfies and making video calls; it is now positioned in landscape mode for these purposes. The gadget also supports Apple’s Center Stage technology, which automatically changes the camera angle as you walk, for approved apps like FaceTime. Its 12-megapixel wide angle camera on the rear supports Smart HDR 4 and features automatic picture stabilization. It can capture videos in slow motion at up to 1080p at up to 240 frames per second, or in 4K quality at up to 60 frames per second.

While the Cellular variants also enable GPS/GNSS and allow connection to 5G networks, the latest iPad Air model from Apple supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connections. The gadget contains a Touch ID sensor on the power button for biometric verification, and there is a USB Type-C connection for data transfers and charging (20W).
