JioHotstar Streaming Platform Launched
JioStar has officially launched JioHotstar, a new streaming platform formed by merging JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The platform will offer a vast library of content from both services, alongside additional programming from international studios and streaming platforms. JioStar has also introduced a free tier for users.

In a press release, JioStar announced that JioHotstar will feature approximately 300,000 hours of content, including movies, TV shows, and live sports coverage. At launch, the platform will have a combined user base of over 500 million (50 crore), although it is unclear whether this number accounts for duplicate accounts from users previously subscribed to both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.

The platform also debuts a new logo, which features the word JioHotstar accompanied by an asymmetrical seven-pointed star.
Free Access and Subscription Plans
For now, JioHotstar will be free to access, allowing users to watch content without a subscription. However, it remains uncertain whether some content will be behind a paywall. The company has introduced premium subscription plans for users who prefer an ad-free experience and higher streaming quality.

Existing JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar subscribers will be automatically transitioned to JioHotstar and prompted to set up their new accounts upon first login. New users can subscribe to the platform’s plans, starting at ₹149.
Diverse Content Library
JioHotstar will offer content in 10 Indian languages across various genres, including movies, TV series, anime, documentaries, and live sports. Additionally, the platform will feature international premieres and exclusive content from Disney, NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros., Discovery HBO, and Paramount.

Sparks Initiative for Digital Creators
JioHotstar is also launching a flagship initiative called Sparks, aimed at showcasing India’s top digital creators through innovative content formats.
With its expansive content library and international partnerships, JioHotstar is set to become a major player in India’s OTT streaming market.
