When Google released the Pixel 7a last year, it was one of the most feature-rich Pixel A-series handsets ever, at least in terms of hardware. It was also a really intriguing product. Features like wireless charging and an IP67 classification for water and dust protection were introduced to the Pixel 7a. This, together with its generally “Pixel” still picture quality, made it an extremely appealing product, even considering that it costs Rs. 43,999, which is still at the upper end of the mid-range market.

With the exception of the new Tensor G3 processor and a 120Hz refresh rate display, not much has changed this year; the majority of the internal hardware is still the same as it was in the Pixel 7a. Similar to Samsung, Google is relying on Tensor G3-enabled AI features to persuade customers to upgrade to the newest model.

The Pixel 8a has one significant improvement over the Pixel 7a, and that’s the storage space. Yes, customers in India will now be able to choose between the new 256GB model, priced at Rs. 59,999, and the 128GB storage variation, priced at Rs. 52,999. Though it might seem like a good deal, bear in mind that the OnePlus 12, which is a far superior phone overall, costs Rs. 64,999 in India (for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage edition). Similar to the Pixel 7a and even the more expensive Pixel 8, RAM is still limited to 8GB.

The most significant and most obvious visual alteration to the Pixel 8a is its design. There are now two additional colors available, Bay and Aloe, and they are both very noticeable. The phone used to have a rectangular shape with sharp corners, but now its overall design has rounded corners. The back panel has a lovely matte frosted look and is still composed of polycarbonate.
When compared to the features of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which were released last year, it feels very different. There is a thinner camera module that resembles a visor and sticks out from the rest of the back panel just a little bit. While maintaining the IP67 classification for dust and water resistance, the edges of the rear panel and the camera blend in perfectly with the side frame.

Google improved the Pixel 8a’s display to a 120Hz device and added the Actua branding, while the Pixel 7a went from a 60Hz display to a 90Hz display. The 6.1-inch device has four perfectly flat sides and a protective glass covering with a modest curvature. Those hefty bezels are a standout feature. Its bottom side is the thickest, and its thick bezels resemble those of the 2018 iPhone XR.

Internally, Google chose their Tensor G3 processor, which was a foregone conclusion. As we’ve seen with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, it’s not a performance powerhouse, but it does add a number of new AI-enabled capabilities to the Pixel 8a or A-series. Along with many other improvements, there’s the new Magic Editor, Audio Eraser, and a more secure Face Unlock experience, which debuted on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro last year.

Nothing has changed from last year’s cameras. With its 64-megapixel primary camera, SuperRes Zoom photos up to 8X are now promised. The 13-megapixel ultrawide camera, which is also included on the Pixel 7a, is also included. The 13-megapixel front-facing selfie camera functions similarly as well.

The 4,492mAh battery in the Pixel 8 is marginally bigger than the 4,385mAh battery in the Pixel 7a. The 18W wired charging and the Qi-standard wireless charging have not changed.
Maybe this phone can cost you bit expensive but you can decide by yourself whether to buy it or not.
