Xiaomi unveils its first electric SUV

Xiaomi has officially driven into the electric SUV scene with the launch of its brand-new vehicle, the YU7. After the success of its electric sedan, the SU7, this marks the company’s second electric vehicle and its very first SUV. Unveiled in China, the YU7 promises a blend of power, luxury, and cutting-edge tech.

Xiaomi unveils its first electric SUV

The YU7 is big and built for comfort. It’s nearly five meters long, two meters wide, and has a three-meter wheelbase, making it roomy enough for the whole family or a group of friends. It features a panoramic sunroof, a minimalist yet elegant interior, and an impressive amount of cargo space of up to 1,970 liters. Inside, you’ll find soft-touch materials and infant-safe Nappa leather, giving the cabin a plush and cozy feel.

What really sets the YU7 apart is its futuristic tech. Xiaomi has introduced something called the HyperVision display, which stretches across the lower part of the windshield and shows everything from speed and navigation to entertainment controls. It’s designed to be interactive for both the driver and passengers, and there’s even a remote-control panel for those sitting in the back. The front seats offer massage features and can recline into a zero-gravity position, while the rear seats can tilt back as far as 135 degrees.

When it comes to performance, the YU7 is no slouch. The top-of-the-line Max version comes with Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V6s Plus system, delivering a jaw-dropping 690 horsepower and accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds. Meanwhile, the Standard version boasts an impressive driving range of 835 kilometers on a single charge, thanks to its 96.3 kWh battery. Charging is lightning fast too as the car can go from 10% to 80% battery in only 12 minutes, or gain 620 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.

Xiaomi unveils its first electric SUV

Safety and smart driving features are also top-notch. The YU7 comes with a powerful NVIDIA Thor chip, along with LiDAR, millimetre-wave radar, and a range of sensors and cameras to help detect obstacles, even in tough weather. It also supports over-the-air updates and is ready to connect with AI-powered driving systems in the future.

Xiaomi unveils its first electric SUV

As of now, the YU7 is available only in China, with three versions to choose from: the Standard, priced at 253,500 yuan; the Pro at 279,900 yuan; and the Max at 329,900 yuan. While there’s no word yet on international availability, the YU7’s impressive specs and features suggest Xiaomi could soon become a serious global player in the EV market, taking on big names like Tesla’s Model Y.
